Hoje (31 de julho de 2017), entre as 14h e as 15h, zona de Aveiro/praias, presenciei pela primeira vez uma imagem bonita e, no entanto, curiosa. Uma "bola" redonda em redor do Sol, escura e com um arco-íris em redor. Alguém pode-me esclarecer do que se
trata?
Trata-se de um fenómeno ótico resultante da interação da luz do Sol com cristais
de gelo presentes na atmosfera. Estes cristais estão geralmente suspensos em
nuvens altas localizadas nas altas camadas da troposfera (5-10km). A forma e
orientação dos cristais de gelo dita o tipo de fenómeno observado. Os cristais
podem reflectir a luz como um espelho ou desviar esta da sua direção normal,
separando a mesma nas suas diferentes cores. O mesmo fenómeno pode ser observado
em redor da Lua desde que as condições sejam favoráveis para tal. O mais comum é
termos um halo formando um ângulo de 22 graus com o Sol ou com a Lua (mas também
podem surgir outros tipos de configurações). Repare na imagem composta

Today (July 31st, 2017), between 2pm and 3pm, in the Aveiro district area, I witnessed for the first time a beautiful and yet curious image. A round "ball" around the Sun, dark and with a rainbow around it. Can anyone clarify what this is?
It's an optical phenomenon, resulting from the interaction of sunlight with ice crystals present in the atmosphere. These crystals are usually suspended in high clouds, located in the upper layers of the troposphere (5-10 km altitude). The shape and orientation of the ice crystals dictate the type of phenomenon observed. Crystals can reflect light like a mirror or deviate it from its normal direction, separating it into its different colors. The same phenomenon can be observed around the Moon if conditions are favorable. The most common situation is having a halo forming an angle of 22 degrees with the Sun or the Moon, but other types of configurations may also arise.
