Eu vivo em Viseu e hoje (dia 23 de maio de 2021) pelas 22h48m vi no céu cerca de 20 estrelas em fila indiana a deslocarem-se todas com a mesma velocidade (comparável à velocidade de um avião de longo curso). Do que se tratava? Trata-se de uma constelação de pequenos satélites lançados para o espaço por um foguetão poucos dias antes. Estes conjuntos de satélites destinam-se em geral a dar cobertura de internet ou integrar sistemas de posicionamento global (GPS). Numa primeira etapa eles são libertados pelo foguetão numa órbita baixa (cerca de 250km de altitude) e relativamente próximos uns dos outros formando uma fila. Nesta fase inicial eles são, em geral, facilmente visíveis a olho nu. Com o passar do tempo eles ganham altitude e distanciam-se uns dos outros à medida que vão ocupando as suas posições finais.

What was this? It's a constellation of small satellites, launched into space by a rocket a few days earlier. These sets of satellites are generally intended to provide internet coverage or integrate global positioning systems, the GPS. On a first step, they are released by the rocket into a low orbit at about 250km altitude and relatively close to each other forming a line. In this initial phase, they are usually easily visible to the naked eye. Over time, they gain altitude and move away from each other as they occupy their final positions.
