Por que é que se decidiu comemorar em 2009 o Ano Internacional da Astronomia (AIA)? Por proposta da Italia à ONU: em 2009 fez exactamente 400 anos que Galileu Galilei, pela primeira vez, apontou um telescópio ao céu (mas não foi ele que o inventou!).

It was a proposal from Italy to the United Nations: in 2009, it was exactly 400 years since Galileo Galilei pointed a telescope to the sky for the very first time (even if he didn't invent the telescope!).
