Gostava de saber porque é que existe Sedna e Plutão desapareceu. Plutão é um planeta? Plutão não desapareceu, está tal e qual como sempre esteve, pacificamente orbitando o Sol. Apenas deixou de pertencer ao "clube dos oito" Planetas do Sistema Solar. Agora é Planeta-Anão (portanto, continua a ser planeta). Porquê? Pela nova definição de planeta e planeta-anão da International Astronomical Union (que é quem manda nestas coisas, quer se goste quer não) - ver https://www.iau.org/static/resolutions/Resolution_GA26-5-6.pdf. Para ser planeta, Plutão teria de dominar a sua região orbital, o que não acontece (há centenas de objectos que partilham a mesma zona e Plutão não tem assim muita mais massa em relação ao total da destes). Sedna, por exemplo, ainda não tem o estatuto de Planeta-Anão (para já é mero asteróide): ainda faltam dados sobre a sua massa/densidade. Mas é provável que se confirme durante os próximos anos. Há mais quatro planetas-anões: Ceres (que foi promovido de asteróide!), Éris, Makemaké e Haumea. I would like to know why Sedna exists and Pluto has disappeared? Is Pluto a planet? Now it is a Dwarf-Planet (so, it continues to be a planet). Why? Due to the new definition of planet and dwarf-planet by the International Astronomical Union (who oversees these kinds of things, whether we like it or not) - see http://www.iau.org/static/resolutions/Resolution_GA26-5-6.pdf. To be a planet, Pluto has to dominate its orbital region, which does not happen (there are hundreds of objects that share the same zone and thus Pluto does not have more mass in relation to their total mass). Sedna, for exemple, does not yet have the statute of Dwarf-Planet (for now it is a simple asteroid): we are still missing data on its mass/density. But it is probable that this will be confirmed in the next few years. There are four Dwarf-Planets: Ceres (which was promoted from asteroid!), Éris, Makemaké and Haumea.
